Non-Clogging Wax Carving Burs
Wax is wonderfully easy to carve right up until your bur packs itself full of wax and decides it's done carving.
These specialty carving burs were originally developed for dental laboratories to trim soft materials without clogging, but that same cutting geometry makes them an excellent choice for jewelry wax. The open, aggressive cutting surfaces clear away shavings instead of packing them between a forest of tiny teeth, allowing you to shape wax quickly and cleanly with less stopping to dig wax out of your bur.
They're excellent for everything from quickly removing bulk material to shaping curves, opening recesses, refining contours, and getting into areas that files and larger carving tools can't reach.
Why We Like Them for Wax

FDJ Tip: Here's another case where jewelers can steal a good idea from dentists. These burs were designed specifically to keep soft material from clogging the cutting edges which happens to solve one of the most annoying problems when power carving jewelry wax. Use a light touch, keep the speed reasonable, and let the bur throw the wax chips away instead of trying to melt its way through.
