Using them can be dangerous.Steel hammers are hardened. When you strike a steel tool, there is a great possibility that the impact can cause one or both of the tools to crack or shatter. This will damage the tool and can send shards of metal flying.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eA brass hammer is softer than the steel tool you will strike. Because of this, the tools won't be damaged. Yes, the brass hammer will get marred (it is supposed to) and brass can \"rub off\" on the struck end of the tool, but this is a small price for safety and keeping your tools in good condition.Hint:Use a brass hammer with some \"heft\" to it.
